Unlike mobile mount devices you can use the Cobra HH 38 while in your car and then take it with you when you get out of your car.

Channels and Reception

The Cobra HH 38 can scan 40 channels. The first time you listen to the Cobra HH 38 you will be impressed by how clear the reception is. Cobra has patented a new technology that they call SoundTracker. The company claims SoundTracker can reduce noise and static by up to 90 percent. The net result is that the reception on the Cobra HH 38 is almost crystal clear.

Reception Range

The company advertises the reception range on the Cobra HH 38 to be up to 4 miles. This might be true if you are in a very flat area that has no buildings or mountains to distort the signal. From my own experience I have found the reception range to be much less. Worst case scenario was about half a mile.

If you really want to boost the reception range on the Cobra HH 38, I recommend you considerpurchasing the additional antenna. It will be much taller and thinner than the built in antenna but it can greatly boost the available reception area.

High / Low Power Switch

The Cobra HH 38 CB radio scanner operates on 9 AA batteries. The batteries are not included with the radio scanner so you need to purchase them separately. Any device that runs on battery will eventually drain all the life out of the batter. The Cobra HH 38 has a high / low power switch. When operating in low mode, you can greatly extend the effective usage time until the batteries are drained.

Weather Reports

The Cobra HH 38 CB radio scanner can allow you to easily tune into weather reports regardless of where you are located. If you are traveling through an area, you can fine the current weather conditions and make changes to your route if needed.

Bottom Line

The Cobra HH 38 is a very sleek, light weight hand held CB radio scanner. It is reasonably priced. I would recommend this scanner but only with the optional larger antenna.
