The Uniden BC346XT Handheld TrunkTracker III Analog Police Scanner can be used for much more than just monitoring police transmissions. It can also be used to monitor fire, weather and ham radio transmissions. You can eavesdrop on an abundance of different signals because the Uniden BC346XT can store a total of 9,000 conventional channels, trunked channels or trunked system frequencies.

Programming all of those 9,000 channels on the Uniden BC346XT police scanner can be a challenge. I can only assume that the company is trying to reduce costs because they do not provide a printed manual in the box. Instead you get a CD that allows you to read the manual on your computer. You can also read the manual online. Personally I would prefer a printed manual but I guess I am old fashioned.

You can purchase additional software to program the device if you want to. Instead I spent a few hours online using Google to find all the information that I needed to program the police scanner. Once I had the necessary information I was able to easily configure it for my local emergency services channel in just an hour or so.

The Uniden BC346XT is not a digital police scanner. You might want to contact your local emergency services department to find out if they are using digital. If they are then you will not be able to listen to them on this police scanner. So consider yourself warned.

The Uniden BC346XT is GPS compatible which allows it to figure out exactly where you are and it will select nearby agencies. If you didn’t want to program, the police scanner has Close Call RF Capture. This will automatically detect and tune to nearby transmissions without you having to program it.
