Programming Setup

To be able to use the Uniden BCD396XT handheld police scanner you will first need to program it. Uniden includes a WIKI page and a CD to help you program the unit. In all honesty the information supplied for programming is basically useless.

You will need a radio reference account to setup this device if you are a new owner. There are free scan software that you can download from the Internet that can program the Uniden BCD396XT if you do not have a radio reference account. You will need one of these two devices to setup the police scanner because Uniden does not include a user’s manual.

Channels

The Uniden BCD396XT can store an impressive 25,000 channels. These channels can be either conventional channels, trunked channels or trucked system frequencies. You can easily recall any stored channel.

Uniden includes a technology that they refer to as TrunkTracker IV. TrunkTracker IV allows you to monitor channels other than conventional channels such as APCO 25, Motorola, EDACS and LTR systems.

The Uniden BCD396XT is GPS compatible. This allows the radio scanner to use GPS to automatically scan and select agencies located near where you are.

Alpha Tagging

Unless you are a geek or nerd, it is almost impossible to remember the digital number assigned to different channels. Uniden has provided Alpha Tagging to solve this problem. You can enter a name to represent a saved channel. This makes it much more user friendly and intuitive.

S.A.M.E. Weather Alert

S.A.M.E. stands for specific area message encoding. If there is a NOAA weather or emergency alert for your specific area, you will get the alert.
